Strengthening culture of respect and accountability
Holstein Australia has introduced a new Member Code of Conduct, effective 1 July 2025, outlining clear expectations around respectful, ethical, and inclusive behaviour for all members.
The introduction of the Code follows a complaint involving a member at a local show. While the matter has since been resolved, it highlighted the need for a consistent and formalised framework to guide member conduct and support a safe, productive environment across all Association activities.
The Code of Conduct applies to all member categories – including full, associate, youth, and junior members – and sets out core principles of respect, integrity, accountability, inclusivity, and compliance with laws and Association policies.
“The vast majority of our members already act with the professionalism and respect that underpin the values of Holstein Australia,” said John Crowther, Interim CEO. “But like any member-based organisation, we need to be clear about the standards we expect and how we will respond if those standards are not met. This Code is about protecting our members, our staff, and our reputation – and reinforcing the culture we all value.”
The Code covers areas including respectful behaviour, professional integrity, commitment to participation, confidentiality, and compliance. It also outlines a fair and transparent process for managing any breaches, with disciplinary actions ranging from warnings to suspension or termination of membership in serious cases.
Members are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the Code, which is available to view or download here: Member Code of Conduct
By renewing or commencing membership, all members agree to abide by the Code of Conduct as a condition of membership.
“This is about setting a positive standard – ensuring that Holstein Australia continues to be an organisation where everyone feels respected, safe, and supported,” added Mr Crowther.
