28th April 2026
Dear Members,
We write to inform members of Jersey Australia and Holstein Australia that discussions, first commenced in 2025, are continuing regarding the potential establishment of a united Breed Association with a working date to achieve this by July 1, 2027. This proposed initiative is intended to continue to support registered Holstein and Jersey breeders across Australia, with a longer-term vision of providing a framework that could incorporate all registered dairy breeds.
Following a recent two-day meeting involving members of both Boards and senior management of our respective Associations, full, frank and open discussions were held to explore this opportunity. As a result of these discussions, both Boards have agreed to proceed to the next stage by undertaking detailed due diligence on the potential establishment of a united Association.
This next phase of work will be guided by the following fundamental principles:
-
Continuity of existing member services, events, activities and competitions.
-
Preservation and respect for the distinct histories, legacies and identities of each breed and their members.
-
Ongoing breed direction and development led by committed and passionate breeders representing each respective breed.
-
Maintenance of breed-specific herd books, rules and regulations.
Collectively, both Boards acknowledge that there are meaningful potential benefits and synergies that may be realised through this opportunity, including improved operational efficiency, stronger engagement and representation, enhanced value and opportunities for members.
Importantly, our shared priority is to ensure the establishment and long-term sustainability of a financially viable, independent Breed Association that is well positioned to serve its members and contribute positively to the broader Australian dairy industry for decades to come.
Members will be kept informed as this process progresses. All members will have opportunities to be involved in consultation, engagement and review as further detail is developed. Member input and support will be critical in determining the future direction of this initiative.
