An extremely successful Complete Dairy Herd Dispersal of the Windy View Holsteins account Brendan, Yolanda and Jason McVilly was conducted at Warrnambool Saleyards Friday 20th March.
This sale had been promoted as potentially one of the most outstanding herds to be auctioned in the Western District for many years which proved to be the case.
There were sixty-two registered buyers who competed strongly throughout, with 200 head being sold for a gross of $619,400 to average an impressive $3,097 per head overall.
The sale started strongly with forty-five commercial cows and heifers being sold for an average of $2,586, whilst 155 registered females averaged a remarkable $3,245 each.
Top price of the sale was paid for Windy View Doorman Justine, VG87 as a 4-year old. This outstanding Doorman Daughter sold for $9,750 and was purchased by well-known South Gippsland Breeders Les and Louise Calder. She is due to calve early October to top AI sire Unstoppabull. Her dam is imported Windy View Windbrook Justine VG 88 who sold for $4,250 to local Breeder Brenton Thomas.
Mr Thomas purchased six head for an average of $4,116 including Lot 127 Windy View Emilio Lilly ET for $5,200 who was joined to sexed Percius to calve mid-May. This stylish heifer’s Dam is from Glenorleigh Damion Latona EX92, whose dam is Glenorleigh Outside Lilly Ex91 and is an 8 Star Brood Cow.
A full sister to the top price cow Windy View Doorman Justine 2nd VG 86 sold to Gippsland Breeders Terry, Janine and Mitch Clark from Nerrena for $7000. This outstanding uddered cow is due to Sidekick on April 20th .
The Justine family created strong interest with Max Hall, Walloroi Stud at Invergordon, Victoria purchasing two daughters of Windy View Doorman Justine 2, namely Lot 76 Windy View Chief Justine, a rising 2-year old heifer in calf to Sexed Percius due late May for $5,200, and Lot 77 her Bradnick Yearling for $3,700. Walloroi purchased four head from the Justine Family averaging $4,400 each.
Kevin, Helen and Mitch Jones were very strong bidders all day taking home nine top flight cows for an average of $5,016 each, including three superb cows for $7,000 each, namely the EX94 Windy View Windbrook Grace whose average PI is 116 over four lactations, whilst the EX90 Scientific Daryl daughter in Windy View Daryl Maisy, who is due to Mirand late May, is calving right to compete at the Major Spring Shows. This outstanding 5 year old won the Prestigious Western District 4-year old class in Semex Holstein Australia On-Farm Competition.
Arguably the best young cow in the sale Windy View Awesome Yana VG85 at two years was also purchased by the Jones for $7,000.
Interstate buyers, Eloora Pastoral, Blighty, NSW purchased very astutely taking home four head for $3,500 each including Windy View Goldchip Josie, a daughter of Fairvale AJ Josie VG89 for $4,000.
Well-known local Breeders, Brian and Jo Dickson, took the opportunity to add new bloodlines to their herd by purchasing seven head for an average $3,800 including an outstanding Windy View Sunlight heifer out of an EX92 dam, Windy View Ladino Bobbi, who in turn is out of a VG86 Point Outside who has PI of 113 for $4,500.
Another significant purchase was made by Roger Russell from Camperdown. Mr Russell purchased two head for $3,750 including Windy View Eudon Justine for $7,000. She carries a valuable calf by Master due July.
Volume buyers at the sale included Ian and Michelle Conn from Hedley in Gippsland who purchased autumn calving females and took home eighteen head for an average of $3,119 whilst local dairyman Sunday Ridge Dairies from Simpson purchased twenty-six head for an average of $2,659.
Overall it certainly was a great sale and a reward to the McVillys’ who have spent a lifetime developing one of the best herds to be dispersed in recent times.
