The October proof run sees Dixie Park Hitest Bluey 4609, owned by Matt Glennen (Dixie Park Farm Trust) and Marcus Rees, top the New Genomic Females list with 366 BPI, enter the Top Young Genomic Females list at number 4 and come in at number 8 on the all-time Top Genomic Females list.
“Dixie Park Hitest Bluey is pretty much a product of our own breeding philosophy with a real focus on good commercial cows, good functional type. Essentially we are looking to breed profitable cows for commercial conditions,” says Dixie Park’s Matt Glennen.
“Hitest is an interesting sire,” says co-owner Marcus Rees. “Nice genomics with a BPI of 310 and high butterfat. Mated to Dixie Park Jo Dancer Bluey 4210, with a BPI of 317, we’ve produced a 366 BPI animal. There’s a real diverse range of sires in this particular pedigree, and the family can be traced back to the Faith family out of the US via imported embryos I bought in a few years back, got in calf then sent the heifers off to Dixie Park.”
Currajugle Geronimo Golden 2906 - bred by Neil and Simone Jollife - which topped the September New Genomic females list at 350 BPI sees an increase to 358 BPI this month, securing the number 5 position on the Top Young Genomic females list and number 15 on the all-time Top Genomic Females list.
“We’re really pleased with the way the Golden cow family is developing,” says Neil Jollife. “WE can trace this animal back to 2004 Cow of the Year winner, Auldreekie Juror 1134-ET and beyond, and the family has ranked consistently highly for generation upon generation now.
“This particular Jeronimo heifer is out of a Mogul heifer which was previously one of the highest ranked TPI females in Australia. We put a lot of thought and work into our breeding decisions, but essentially we’ve got a bloody good consistent cow family,” says Neil.
Top three New Genomic Females were Dixie Park Hitest Bluey 4609 (366 BPI), Redmaw Jeronimo Janea 2531 (345 BPI) and Redmaw Mastermind Elois 2510 (345 BPI).
Top three Young Genomic Heifers (31-07-2017 to date) were Vala Bandares Boliana-ET (391 BPI), Hindlee Jeronimo PB Dallas 19004 (375 BPI) and Vala Quantum Nady (369 BPI).
On the overall list of Top 20 Genomic Females top spot was taken by Vala Bandares Boliana-ET (391 BPI), followed by Wilara Buddha Steph (385 BPI) and Purnim Moneyman Shasnah (383 BPI).
