Wyena Holsteins operated by Donna Edge, Danny O'Shannassy and their children Dennis and Cally have been involved with registered Holsteins since 1976, when Donna received a pure bred calf- Warraglen Linmack Sonia VG85 1* as a birthday present. Sonia had 7 heifer calves and has many descendants in the herd today.
In November 2001, the herd moved to its current location at Carpendeit, Vic, with the purchase of 196 acres of well sheltered, fertile land. In 2003 115 acres of leased land was taken on just 1km from the home property. This is primarily used for young stock and fodder production.
Currently the Autumn / Spring calving herd of 125-140 cows is milked through a 10 swingover dairy but hope to change this in the spring of 2008 to a 40 bail Rotary for management and life style reasons and possibility increase cow numbers to 160 - 170. Wyena is also home to registered Brown Swiss and Jerseys milking along side the black/white and red/white Holsteins making it a multi cultural society. |
