Youth Exchange Opportunities

Semex/Holstein Australia Canada Youth Fellowship

semex_logoSemex Pty Ltd and Holstein Australia through the Victorian state branch sponsor a 3 month exchange to Canada every two years. The fellowship is open to all young dairy farmers aged between 18 to 25 years working in the dairy industry.

While there are no formal selection criteria, past winners have demonstrated commitment, enthusiasm and maturity needed to be an Ambassador to the Australian dairy industry and Holstein Australia. The fellowship winner experiences all aspects of the Canadian dairy industry including visiting leading Holstein studs and artificial breeding centres and attending the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto, Canada.

The next fellowship will be in 2013. Application forms will be made available later in 2012.

New Zealand exchange programs

Holstein Australia, through the NSW and Victorian state branches sponsor two biennial Youth exchanges to New Zealand for members of Holstein Youth from their respective states. To be eligible members must be actively involved in the dairy industry. The exchange is for a period of 4 weeks and engages those selected in local and regional dairy operational activities.

Interstate Exchange Programs

The Victoria and Queensland state branches offer Holstein Youth the opportunity to experience firsthand, dairy production on member’s properties in each other’s state. The program lasts between 2 to 4 weeks and provides an insight to and knowledge of how different environments and climatic extremes impact on local dairy production systems.
